Caryl Goodyear-Bruch, CCRN, PhD

Clinical Associate Professor
Director of Research
  • Dr. Goodyear-Bruch received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1979 from Avila College, Kansas City, Missouri. She obtained a Master's degree in 1988 at a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist program at California State University, Long Beach, California, and her PhD from the University of Kansas in 2005.

  • Dr. Goodyear-Bruch has vast experience in the critical care nursing profession serving as an educator, clinical nurse specialist, and faculty. She has worked in a variety of critical care settings including surgical/trauma, medical, burns, and emergency department. She has been board certified in critical care since 1983.

  • Dr. Goodyear-Bruch is active in the American Association of Critical Care Nurses both on the local and national level. She has been on the board of the local Chapter since 1989 and was President in 2000-2001. At the national level, she currently serves on the national Board of Directors of the AACN and has previously served as Chair of the Education Task Force.

  • Dr. Goodyear-Bruch's research program seeks to identify the best care for the patient on mechanical ventilation. Currently, she works with a team of researchers studying diaphragmatic fatigue. Other research interests include neuromuscular blockade and the use of technology in critical care.
