Access to a wealth of cases including experience in specialty areas such as MRI, radiation oncology, invasive radiological procedures, GI endoscopy, cardioversions, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The University of Kansas Hospital is a nationally accredited Level I trauma center for the Kansas City metropolitan area.

BURN CENTER

The University of Kansas Hospital is the only Level I Burn Center in the Kansas City metro area and the state of Kansas certified by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association.

NINE NURSE ANESTHESIA DEPT. FACULTY

The program has 2 academic faculty and 7 CRNA faculty who average 10 years experience as nurse anesthetists. An additional 20 adjunct faculty at affiliate sites provide invaluable clinical instruction.

TWENTY-TWO
ANESTHESIOLOGISTS

Clinical instruction is also provided by 22 anesthesiologists many of whom have completed fellowships in pediatrics, organ transplantation, pain management, and cardiovascular anesthesia.

LATEST
TECHNOLOGY

Students train in settings which employ the latest advances in technology including trans intra-hepatic portal shunts (TIPS) and endovascular AAA repairs in radiology, subthalamic nuclear stimulators for patients with Parkinson’s disease, radio frequency ablation for kidney tumors, patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure and cerebral aneurysm coiling.

MENTORS

The following anesthesiologists have all completed Fellowships in a specialty area: Peter Hild, MD, in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia; Ronald Torline, MD in Cardiac and Pediatric Anesthesiology; Martin DeRuyter, MD in Critical Care Medicine; Talal Khan, MD, in Pain Medicine; Grace Shih, MD, in Obstetric Anesthesia; John Breth, MD, in Pain Medicine; Christopher Beck, MD, Cardiac Anesthesiology. Anthony Kovac, MD is known for his research in difficult airway management and anesthesia for electroconvulsive therapy.
